Review: Oittm Wi-Fi Smart Plug, Works with Amazon Alexa
I’ve been looking at making my home a smarter home in various ways. I’ve taken a couple of steps but those are to be discussed in a later article. Today however, I’m starting by showing off the Oittm Wi-Fi Smart Plug with Amazon Alexa controls baked in. It’s a small start to making my home as smart as I can get it, so let’s dive in and see what this Oittm Wi-Fi Smart Plug is all about.

With the Oittm Wi-Fi Smart Plug you can easily control anything that plugs into it via the Oittm Smart App on both Android and iOS. It’s as simple as installing the app and clicking the plug you want to control. So even if you’re already on the road or at your vacation destination and need to change something at home you can easily do so without worries.
This is extremely nice for having a light on for when you return at night and know that the house is going to be considerably dark due to your kids leaving the lights off when they left or whatever. This is also the same if you left the house and left your lights on and know you’re not coming back for several hours or even a couple of days. Simply load up the app and turn the light off that’s plugged into your Oittm Wi-Fi Smart Plug and start saving some electricity.
There’s literally no setup involved. Simply power up the Oittm Wi-Fi Smart Plug, install the app and connect and you’re done. There’s no paid service or anything similar. Makes dealing with these things simple, easy and stress free.
The Oittm Wi-Fi Smart Plug only occupies one outlet as well so you still have full access to the other outlet on the wall for whatever else you might need or want to plug into it. Most other similar smart plugs will cover the majority if not all of the outlet preventing you from using the other outlet which of course can make things more difficult depending on how many things you need plugged in to a certain place.
With this being my first real “smart home” product I have to say I’m very impressed with it. It simply works and it works without much work put into it at all. This is important because a lot of non-tech savvy people want all of these “smart home” products but are often clueless or confused on how to use them or even where to start.
The really cool feature of the Oittm Wi-Fi Smart Plug is that it has Amazon Alexa support. To me this is very important since I have Amazon Echo Dots all throughout my house for various different things and they are constantly being used. It’s as simple as installing an Alexa Skill, setting it up and you’re good to go with the smart plug and being able to control it by saying something similar to “Alexa, turn off the light in the computer room.”
For $15.99 you truly can’t go wrong with the Oittm Wi-Fi Smart Plug and in my opinion it’s a great way to get started in making your home a smart home. Every room should have a couple or more of these plugged in and you should be using them to your full advantage.
